When we think of Japan and the UK, there are differences to be found in the values, customs and cultures of each nation, but there are also many things we have in common. It is these things which can bring us together despite being 6000 miles apart.
British culture has influenced Japan for over 200 years. Today's internet technology dramatically helps us find information and learn about foreign cultures but still we feel that most British people don't know the real face of today's Japan - even if British culture is popular in Japan.
We hope that this exhibition and the live performances direct from Japan will encourage your interest in today's Japanese culture, trends and what the younger Japanese generation is trying to create for the new era. We believe that understanding can only lead to a better relationship between two people and hope that this event can contribute to it.

However, it is difficult to know what the 'right thing' is in today's Japan.
Religion and its associated ethics have never had a strong presence and the sense of community and social morality that once was strong is in decline here.
I feel lost, but I am searching. What can I do? I feel I must paint. I must paint thousands of pictures and I know that this, at least, is the right thing for me.
